MCBase for Windows product description
MCBase V3.x is a Music Collection dataBase system (for computers using the Microsoft Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000 and XP operating systems), that has been setup to assist in managing music collections, regardless of the media on which the music is recorded. The primairy target of MCBase, is to provide it's users with flexible and alphabetical access (on either a screen or on a hardcopy) of all material present in their collection. MCBase is, of course, Year2000 compliant.
- MCBase V3.x is a totally new approach of the Music Collection dataBase concept and (on top of it's flexible method of data processing) it is now also capable of handling your memo data in Rich Text format and store multi media files (graphics, photo's, audio and video files in whatever format you wish) into it's databases.
(Please note, that all multi media files stored, can be played or accessed directly from within MCBase by making use of your computer's multi media capabilities).
- In order to facilitate the handling of these "multi media" files, the MCBase system has migrated to the Paradox database format - one of the industry's most common database standards, to process and store your data. This means that your data is stored in a transparant format, accessible by other applications, if required.
- In order to give the user maximum flexibility in viewing and reporting their data, a User Report Designer has been implemented, that enables a user to create their own reports in a layout as they prefer. The capabilities of the User Report Designer include SQL (= "Structured Query Language") queries, but other methods of data retrieval are also possible. The User Report Designer reports to both screen and printer.
Standard "URD" database search queries are already included and other sample User Report Designer reports can be found on the download page.

(MCBase data import and export facilities, for all previous MCBase versions as well as dBaseIV and Ascii formats (i.e.: plain text files), have been developed and are available to all registered users by using the MCBaseUtilities program set, which is now included in the MCBase V3.x archive).

Next to MCBase itself, you may find various add-on programs and utilities available in the MCBase installation file (setup). When you choose a "typical" installation in the installation wizard, all these options will be installed. Currently, following add-on functionality is available for MCBase V3.x:
- The MCBaseUtilities add-on program is an application in which various functions are combined. One could say, that you may regard it as your MCBase "toolbox". At the moment, following functions are available from the MCBaseUtilities program set :
- Direct database access - Users are be able to access each database, using a "spreadsheet-like" dialog (known as a "grid"). All fields are be directly accessible - including the fields that store the relations to the other database sets.
- Importing data - Import functionality is available for all previous versions of MCBase. Functionality for importing data from dBaseIV and Ascii files is now also included. (Note: The import routine will also be able to handle a dBaseIII database).
- Exporting data - Export functionality is available for all previous versions of MCBase. Functionality for exporting data to dBaseIV and Ascii files is now also included.
- Database generation - Being able to create a new and empty database file set can be required at times, so this functionality is included in this utility collection as well. (Utility: MCBaseGenerate - executed from within MCBaseUtilities).
- Database Repair - The possibility to repair or rebuild a database system is something that you may require in times of need: a powerfailure or other disaster could corrupt a database set. The MCBaseUtilities offer functionality to rebuild and repair the databases, that is tailormade to the MCBase database system. Apart from this, you may also decide to run it every once in a while, just to reclaim space lost to deleted entries and such. (Utility: MCBaseRepair - executed from within MCBaseUtilities).
- Direct database access - Users are be able to access each database, using a "spreadsheet-like" dialog (known as a "grid"). All fields are be directly accessible - including the fields that store the relations to the other database sets.
- The MCBase SQL search query reports are highly flexible SQL implementations in MCBase's User Report Designer. These queries enable you to search all databases of the MCBase database system, using either exact matches or substrings, SQL wildcard characters are also allowed. These SQL query reports can be modified at will, to suit your personal taste and are included in the installation archive.
