Please find below the various download options for the MCBase V2.x software archives. Please note that you will need your personal registration key to use them in full.

Note: all archives are in PKWare's PKZIP format (since it is the most wide spread archiver format). If you do not have a (shareware) copy of PKZIP (or a compatible program, like WinZip), you may download one from the PKWare support website.

    • MCBase for DOS/Win3 shareware evaluation archive.

MCBase V2.x download linkDownload MCBase V2.5b - local site link

This archive (MCB25b.ZIP) contains the shareware evaluation version of MCBase:

      - MCBase executable (for IBM XT compatibles or better)
      - Documentation file
      - [Obsoleted] Order form
      - License agreement
      - Revision history
      - GenMCB utility (to create a new and empty database set)
      - INSTALL.DOC (an installation guide)
      - README.1ST (important remarks on configuring your system for MCBase)
      - FILE-ID.DIZ (description file)
      - a demonstration database set (a set of *.DBF & *.DBT files)

    • MCBase V2.x installation utility INSTALL.EXE.

MCBase V2.x install utility download linkDownload MCBase V2.x installation utility.

This archive contains an upgrade of INSTALL.EXE as found on your MCBase Master Disk: INSTALL.EXE is a utility that handles the renamed MCBase application archives (in LHA's ".LZH" file format!) and to handle certain situations under Windows95 that could cause a problem. (Win95 doesn't require a "Files=xx" statement nor requires it a Config.sys file. MCBase (as any other DOS/Win3 based program) does have this requirement). When you update (or build) your Master Disks with the other archives found here, you should also replace the old INSTALL.EXE with this updated copy.

    • MCBase V2.5b executable for IBM AT compatibles or better (upgrade)

MCBase for AT's download linkDownload MCBase V2.5b for AT compatibles.

This archive contains an upgrade of the MCBase executable for use with IBM AT compatibles (or better) with less than 2Mb Ram memory available. To run this version of MCBase, you must have a database set already available (after all: it is meant as an *upgrade* only. The database generation utility GenMCB is included in the shareware archive and on your MCBase Master Disk).

(Note: if you use this file to update (or build) your MCBase Master Disk, you'll need to convert this archive to the .LZH format!).

    • MCBase V2.5b Protected Mode executable for IBM AT compatibles with 2Mb Ram or better (upgrade).

MCBase V2.5 DPMI download linkDownload MCBase V2.5b - Protected Mode version.

This archive contains an upgrade of the MCBase executable for use with IBM AT compatibles (or better) with 2Mb Ram memory available, or more. The DOS Protected Mode Interface (DPMI), needed to address this memory from DOS, is included in the archive.

    • MCBase V2.5b documentation in formatted versions.

This archive contains the WordPerfect V6.x and Rich Text Format (RTF) versions of the MCBase documents:

      - Documentation file
      - [Obsoleted] Order form(s)
      - License agreement
      - Revision history

(Note: if you use this file to update (or build) your MCBase Master Disk, you'll need to convert this archive to the .LZH format and you'll also need to replace the install utility with the update found above!).

This ZIP archive contains a simple HTML page. MCBase users can use this page, in order to have an easy means to send us e-mail, reach this website or access to other items of interest.

(This is the "MCBase Online Support" page, used by the "MCBase for Windows" program. Users of the "MCBase for DOS" program can invoke this page manually. Extract this page from the archive to the same directory/folder as where the MCBase executable is installed and replace any existing previous copy).

MCBase V2.x util download linkDownload MCBase V2.x utilities

This archive contains some utility programs, for use with MCBase. (Some require the presence of your MCBase registration key).

      - GenMCB utility (to create a new and empty database set).
      - MCBase icon (for use under MS Windows).
      - MCBCNVRT database conversion utility (to convert from MCBase V1.x to V2.x).
      - MCBACKUP sample set of batch programs, together forming a menu controlled backup procedure to create and maintain a backup of your datafiles (uses the freeware LHA archiver).

(Note: if you use this file to update (or build) your MCBase Master Disk, you'll need to convert this archive to the .LZH format!).

Please note, that this sample backup procedure is provided as-is (please see: Preferred data backup solutions.). Creating a frequent backup is highly recommended, but is the responsability of the user. Backup software is not part of the MCBase product line. For the best possible backup solution, you may want to investigate additional hardware, as a tapestreamer, a ZIP-drive, or a CD-rom burner?

    • Freeware LHA archiver by Haruyasu Yoshizaki.

LHA freeware archiver download linkDownload LHA freeware archiver.

As your database set will grow, you will outgrow the possibility to fit your entire backup onto a few disks. When this occurs, you should consider switch to using an archiver program, like - for instance - the freeware LHA archiver by Haruyasu Yoshizaki (Yoshi). This excellent archiver program will compress your database set to a fraction (some 10%) of it's original size.

LHA does not support the "Disk spanning" concept. If a single archive with all your data in it proves to become to large for a single disk, store the database set in different archive files and store these on seperate disks. Alternatively, you can switch to other archivers as PKWare's PKZIP or Robert Jung's ARJ, that do support disk spanning.

Please note, that the suggestion to use an archiver as a backup procedure is provided as-is. Creating a frequent backup is highly recommended, but is the responsability of the user. Backup software is not part of the MCBase product line. For the best possible backup solution, you may want to investigate additional hardware, as a tapestreamer, a ZIP-drive, or a CD-rom burner?
