MCBase for DOS/Win3 product description
MCBase for DOS/Win3 is a relational database system that has been setup to assist in managing music collections, regardless of the media on which the music is recorded. The primairy target of MCBase, is to generate alphabetic lists (on screen or on hardcopy) of all material present in your collection. MCBase is, of course, Year2000 compliant.
- MCBase for DOS/Win3 is a fully event driven, both (hot)key & mouse controlled, windowing application, with very flexible configuration options, known to perform with both the DOS and Windows 3 - 3.11 operating systems. Tips on using MCBase for DOS/Win3 under Windows95/98/NT.
- MCBase for DOS/Win3 is using the dBase III(+) .DBF & .DBT database file format, one of the industry's most common database standards, to process and store your data. This means that your data is stored in a transparant and well known database format, always accessible by other applications.
- MCBase's built in relation integrity checking makes sure all relations in the database are valid. Should you approach the databases with an another application, that can handle the dBase file format and accidentally damage one of the relations by hand, MCBase will notify you the very next time that the record is being handled.
- Another big advantage, is the possibility to select the preferred record search method: you may select to use either an index based key search method (very fast with large databases) or a convenient picklist. The user can set his/her preferred search method for each data type (artists, albums, catagories and so on) seperately.
- You may find an extensive Product Features Summary here.

Tips on using MCBase for DOS/Win3 under Windows(95 to XP or higher).
Although there is a native Windows(95 to XP or higher) version available, MCBase for DOS/Win3 will perform just perfect under Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP, if you take following notes into consideration:
- As under DOS and Windows V3.xx, you need to make sure your system's CONFIG.SYS file has a line as FILES=60 (or higher).
- Once you've got MCBase installed, access the program icon's properties tab and set all memory fields to "automatic". (How to do this, is described in your Windows manual and it's online help system).
News for users of computers with 200MHz(+) processors.
The following does NOT apply to users of MCBase V2.4b or later.
If you have a computer with a 200MHz processor or faster, you may encounter an errormessage like following: "Runtime error 200 at ...", after which an application terminates.
If this is the case, you will need to update that software: an internal timing routine, used by the Borland Pascal compiler(s), had to do a division by zero - which is incorrect.
A patch has been developed to overcome this problem, which has been implemented on all MCBase executables, bearing version number V2.4b or later.
