Example: Adding a new image to PictureBook.

The steps to add the new image:

Let's go through the required steps to add a new image to the database, taking one step at a time.
PictureBook has been executed and it is up and running on our Windows desktop. We see the Picture image tab page displayed, showing the first picture (if any) in the database.

    1. First, in order to add the new image, we need to create a record where we can store the image in: so let's insert a new record. Go to the database navigation buttons and click on the button with the "+" icon.

    2. Then, there are two possibilities to insert our image in the now new and (still) empty record.

      • Paste the image, using the Windows clipboard functions. In order to paste the image from the clipboard to the Picture image tab page, click the image paste button on the toolbar found on the right.

      • Import the image, using the import function button from the toolbar found on the right. Supported import formats are *.bmp, *.jpg, *.jpeg, *.wmf and *.emf.

    3. Add a suitable title and date for the image. (Title field is mandatory). With imported images, a default title and date are automatically inserted (i.e.: file name and file date), but these may be manually altered at any time. (Please note: when entering a two digit year notation, it is assumed to be within the current century: a year notation as "60" will be understood as "2060". To avoid misunderstanding, the use of 4 digit year notation (i.e. "1960") is recommended).

    4. Next, you can switch to the Picture information tab page. Here, you find a memo editor with which you can make a full description of your image. The memo field is virtually unlimited in size and supports the use of fonts (acc. Rich Text Format standard).

    5. When you're done editing the title, date and background information, you'll need to actually save the record to the database. You'll do this by clicking the database navigation button with the "V" icon (checkmark icon).
You've now successfully added a new entry to the PictureBook graphics database system.

In order to find further information on how to edit an existing record or how to remove it, please refer to section "A tour through PictureBook's functions", which you can find in the PictureBook helpfile. For details on how to add a group of images at once (batch import), please see section "The batch import utility - PbBatchImport.EXE", also in the helpfile.
