Example: taking a new screenshot.
The steps to take a new screenshot (or an automated series):
Let's go through the required steps to take a new screenshot, taking one step at a time. TGrab has been executed and it is up and running on our Windows desktop.
(Please note - recreative use: Some games operate in "non-windows video memory", as for example some games that use additional video accellerator cards, such as the powerful 3Dfx cards. The graphic representations, created by these cards, are often created outside of the "normal" windows video memory and these are - as such - mostly NOT within reach of the TGrab (and Windows) image snapshot routines).

Timer operation:
- First, in order to activate timer mode, make sure that the checkbox for "Timer operation" in the "Capture Operation mode" group, at the top of the dialog, is checked.
- Then, go to the "General settings" and make sure that an appropriate folder and basis filename have been set. (Be aware, that - during capture mode - TGrab will overwrite existing filenames).
- Go to the "Timer operation functions" group and adjust the settings for:
- Interval time (adjust required time)
- Duration (set checkmark to activate and adjust required time)
- Quantity (set checkmark to activate and adjust required quantity).
Please note: if Interval time is shorter than Duration time, TGrab will not be able to capture an image. In future releases, TGrab will verify the settings and will warn if this situation would occur.
Also set the required options for:
- image capture mode (full screen or active window only)
- hide mode (check the checkbox for "Hide until done", to hide TGrab from the desktop during the capture process)
- exit mode (check the checkbox for "Exit when done", to terminate TGrab when the set limits have been reached).
- You can now access and use the program (or create the desktop situation) from which you want to take your snapshots. When this is in place, access the TGrab window and press the "Begin" button in the "Timer operation functions" group, to enable the capture process.
- While TGrab is now running in the background, it will continue to make snapshots of the selected items, copy these to the windows clipboard, from where TGrab will save them to sequentially numbered image files, using the basis filename and filetype as indicated by you previously.
Manual operation:
- First, in order to activate manual mode, make sure that the checkbox for "Manual operation" in the "Capture Operation mode" group, at the top of the dialog, is checked.
- Then, go to the "General settings" and make sure that an appropriate folder and basis filename have been set. (Be aware, that - during capture mode - TGrab will overwrite existing filenames).
- Then press the "Begin" button in the "Manual operation functions" group to enable the capture process. (Press the "Hide" button, to do this while hiding TGrab from the windows desktop).
- While TGrab is running in the background, you now access the program (or create the desktop situation) from which you want to take your snapshot. When this is in place, press the [Print Screen] key to capture the full desktop screen, or press the [Alt]+[Print Screen] keys simultaniously to capture the active window only. These key sequences will copy the image to the windows clipboard, from where TGrab will now take it and store it to a file, using the basis filename and filetype as indicated by you previously. (The basis filename will be extended with a sequential number).
